Wenn du Eine Braut Hast (Courier Film Berlin, 1925). German Poster (56" X 74").
Printed in Berlin, this gorgeous stone litho poster is from a film that little is known about. The title translates directly as "When You Have a Bride," and if the poster is any indication, the picture is full of action, including car chases, fist fights, and the scaling of tall buildings! In the bottom right corner there is a censor stamp dated May 13, 1925, and the artist's signature "Baitz." It's likely the artwork was designed by Lilli and/or Roman Baitz, Austrian natives that moved to Berlin to open an arts and crafts studio in 1909. The husband and wife team specialized in the manufacture of high quality puppets, scenery, and dolls for decorating large department store display windows and atriums. Lilli, a talented sculptor, is thought have designed the only doll of actress Mary Pickford. In 1938, the factory was confiscated by the Nazis, and in 1942 Ms. Baitz committed suicide. The company relocated to Austria, and the pre-war dolls, which bear the signature of the studio on the verso, are widely collected today. For its age, this poster is in remarkable condition, with only touchup to edge tears and tiny chips at the folds. Very Fine- on Linen.
