    Description

World War II U.S. Naval Aviation (U.S. Navy, Early 1940s). Rolled, Fine/Very Fine. Aviation Training Posters (3) (Approx. 39" X 59") Photography Under the Direction of Edward Steichen.
Making their debut appearance at Heritage, these training posters are exceptionally rare pieces of history, never before seen by most collectors in their large format glory. The importance of the U.S. Naval Aviation's role throughout World War II cannot be understated, proving to be essential in the Pacific theater as the Navy hopped from one island to the next. Dogfighting airgunners, Grumman Avenger torpedo bombers, and the patriotic women who filled the technical and administrative ranks as WAVES all kept the military machine up and running. Famed Life magazine and Naval combat photographer Edward Steichen led the talented team behind the photographs featured in this poster series, and contributed a number of the images himself. Other specific photographers, each hand picked and recruited by Steichen, will be credited for their stills in the following descriptions. Signs of handling include mild edge wear, some creasing, small tears, and minor bits of paper loss at the edges. The "Torpedo Bomber" has a chip in the top right corner and each poster has a tear at the upper or lower edge with a bit of light touchup and braced with archival tape on the verso. Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.
