    Description

World War II Propaganda (U.S. Navy, c.1942). Fine+ on European Linen. Recruiting Poster (28" X 42") "Naval Aviation," McClelland Barclay Artwork.
A propaganda artist through both World War I and World War II, McClelland Barclay had an incredible amount of talent that was matched by his patriotism. Though he made some of the most recognizable recruiting images from the war, his heart was set on becoming a front line combat artist. Unfortunately, in 1943, he would be reported as missing in action after the naval vessel on which he was serving sunk in the Solomon Islands. His posters remain highly collectible, just like this Naval Aviation recruitment poster. Although backed on European linen, it has received no touchup to edge wear, creasing, moderate tears, and thin surface scratches. Also visible are mild surface scuffs, a horizontal fold near the bottom, as well as unobtrusive smudging and staining. The linen has been nearly trimmed to the borders.
