Description
World War II Propaganda (U.S. Government Printing Office, 1944). Very Fine on Linen. Army Air Force Recruitment Poster (25" X 38") "Fly for Her Liberty and Yours," Howard Chandler Christy Artwork. As an artist, Howard Chandler Christy is probably best remembered for his series of patriotic posters featuring what became known as "Christy Girls." Christy's depictions of idealized, beautiful women, often bearing the red, white, and blue of the United States flag, appeared on many famous posters throughout World War I. Offered here for only the second time at Heritage is one of his poster from World War II for the U.S. Army Air Force. The poster features one of Christy's Girls urging citizens to become a pilot and fly for freedom. A partially restored poster with bright color and a clean overall appearance. The poster displays general signs of use, including light edge wear, slight creases, minor scuffs, faint stains, and a few small tears in the border, a few of which extend slightly into the outer edges of the image area. Touchup has been applied to one of the tears, but no further restoration has been attempted beyond being backed on linen. Most of the wear is in the borders and towards the outer edge of the image area, and the image itself is in excellent condition.
