    Description

World War I Propaganda (U.S. Navy, 1917). Fine- on Linen. Recruitment Poster (30" X 40") "Enlist in the Navy," Milton Bancroft Artwork.
Originally known for his beautiful impressionist paintings, Milton Bancroft turned his artistic talents towards the patriotic cause upon America's entry into WWI. Although he produced other posters for the Navy, Red Cross, and Council of National Defense, this poster is considered to be his most famous work and is now a historic piece of Americana. Light professional touchup has been applied to mild creases, pinholes, some chips in the borders, and a few tears. One of the tears extends from the right border, through the sailor's hat, and into the left black background. The poster's borders have been airbrushed.
