    Description

World War I Propaganda (U.S. Government Printing Office, 1917). Third Liberty Loan Poster (20" X 30") J.C. Leyendecker Artwork, "Weapons for Liberty."
This striking image of a Boy Scout handing Lady Liberty a sword engraved with the motto "Be Prepared" comes courtesy of artist Joseph Christian Leyendecker. Leyendecker proved to be one of the most preeminent illustrators in America during the early 20th century. Best known for his poster, book and advertising illustrations, he would produce over 300 covers for The Saturday Evening Post. This iconic linenbacked poster looks phenomenal, even without touchup to a small tear at the bottom, a minor lift in the right border, and a top right corner bend. Very Fine on Linen.
