DescriptionWorld War I Propaganda (Tank Corps Recruiting Office, 1918). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Recruiting Poster (19" X 25") "Join the Black Toms (The Tanks)," Hoffman Artwork. Artist Hoffman here renders the fierce but diminutive mascot of the WWI Tank Corps, a black tom cat from whom they squad got their moniker, as a ferocious panther ready to strike the battlefield. Although backed on linen, no touchup has been applied to the poster, which shows a rounded bottom left corner and post-restoration wear like soft folds, a small stain in the image, and some very faint toning. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
Estimate: $800 - $1,600.
