    Description

World War I Propaganda (Strobridge Lithograph Co., 1917). Liberty War Bonds Poster (29.5" X 39") "Keep These Off the U.S.A." John Norton Artwork.
Shortly after the U.S. formally entered the first World War, the government created the Committee on Public Information (CPI) to create a poster campaign aimed at recruiting soldiers, supporting the Red Cross, and launching four Liberty Bond campaigns. The first two debuted in 1917, followed by two more in 1918 and a Victory Loan campaign in early 1919. This original poster designed by John Norton sends a powerful message with its image of bloodstained boots set against a black background, each imprinted with a tri-color German armorial insignia of a bird with outstretched wings and claws. The caption below urges the American public to do its part by purchasing more Liberty Bonds. The poster has torn pinholes with tears on the left side, wrinkling on the edges, and a tear with a small chip on the right side. There is a tear that extends down from the top border into the boot. Fine/Very Fine on Chartex.
