World War I Propaganda (Scottish War Savings Committee, c. 1917). Fine+ on Linen. Trimmed Scottish War Bonds Poster (19.25" X 24") "The Tank Tour."
As part of their campaign to raise funds for the hefty costs of war, the British Government devised the innovative idea of "Tank Banks," a tour of six battle-used Mark IV tanks from town to town across the UK. Politicians, preachers, and war heroes would join the tour to give speeches from the roofs of the war machines to rally the crowds and generate enthusiasm for War Bonds and War Savings Certificates. Among the ranks of the hulking vehicles was HM Tank 113 "Julian," which took part in the successful Battle of Cambrai and was named in honor of General Julian Byng. This first-time offer from Heritage was once part of the collection of Colonel E. H. McCrahon, one of the most avid WWI poster collectors in the world, and has been signed with his initials on the verso. Although backed on linen, this poster has had no touchup applied to slight edge wear, minor tears, or minute stains. The borders have been trimmed nearly to the printing. Fine+ on Linen.
