World War I Propaganda (Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, 1915). Very Fine- on Paper. First Printing British Double Crown (20" X 29.25") "The Empire Needs Men!" Arthur Wardle Artwork. The massive Empire of Great Britain spanned the globe in the early 1900s, with four of its most prominent territories being Australia, Canada, India, and New Zealand. Symbolizing England as its traditional roaring lion, this poster sends out a clarion call to the Empire's territories, urging them to send troops to the front. However, one may notice a conspicuous absence of one particular British subject. The Union of South Africa took great offence to being left out of the list, and the poster was pulled from use within a year. The British government soon distributed another version of the poster, this time imploring Britain's general "Overseas States" for aid. First printings of this piece are exceedingly rare, as few survived the recall. Backed on paper but otherwise unrestored, this Heritage first has a few moderate tears into the background, soft folds, and a small bit of penciled writing in the lower left corner. Very Fine- on Paper.

    Estimate: $400 - $800.
