World War I Propaganda (Navy League Pittsburg, 1917 - 1918). Fine on Linen. Recruiting Poster (28" X 41.5") "Shall This Continue?" Invoking the still-stinging memory of the RMS Lusitania, the civilian-based U.S. Navy League sent out this beautifully grim call to arms among the residents of the Pittsburgh area. With the presence of war-ready Columbia and the star spangled banner flying on the doomed ocean liner, the poster sought to remind Americans that the ship's sinking was just as much a tragic disaster for the U.S. as it was for Britain. Making its first appearance at Heritage and professionally restored, this stone litho poster once showed small border tears, pinholes in the corners, and a minor chip in the upper left corner. There was a tear from the upper edge that extended into the the top of the bottom border, and the borders have been airbrushed. Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
