World War I Propaganda Lot (Second War Fund, 1918 / American Red Cross, 1919). Red Cross Posters (2) (22.5" X 27", 25" X 38) "Keep this Hand of Mercy at its Work." War.
As the United States entered into World War I in April of 1917, the American government began a massive fundraising campaign for the Red Cross to raise $100 million in one week, using the tagline of "Keep this hand of Mercy at its Work." Artist P.G. Morgan depicts a divine interpretation of a "Hand of Mercy" coming down from the sky to shield the wounded and innocent, bathing them in warm sunlight. Also included is another Red Cross poster by Gordon Grant, asking, "WHAT are YOU doing to HELP?" The stone litho "Hand of Mercy" poster is unrestored with bright color and a clean overall appearance. They may have general signs of use, such as edge wear, mild creasing, pinholes, or tears. There is an over-print at the bottom and archival tape on the verso. This poster receives an individual grade of Very Fine-. The "WHAT are YOU doing to HELP?" poster shows signs of heavy use, including edge and fold wear, significant staining, aging, tears (some of which may be extensive), brittleness, notable paper loss, or other defects. There is a complete horizontal fold separation with archival tape on the verso. This poster receives an individual grade of Fair/Good. Please see full-color, enlargeable image above for more details. Rolled, Overall Grade: Very Good/Fine.
