Description
World War I Propaganda (Edwards & Deutsch Litho Co. Chicago, 1918). Third Liberty Loan Poster (20" X 29.5") "Halt the Hun."This dramatic scene of an Allied soldier pushing back his German counterpart (menacing a woman with small child) was one of the great propaganda posters of the WWI era, courtesy of artist Henry Raleigh. Born in 1880 in San Francisco, Raleigh drew illustrations and covers for the Saturday Evening Post and Cosmopolitan. He is best known for dramatic use of heavy line and memorable copy in his war posters, this being one of his most powerful. Restoration has addressed two chips in the upper left corner, a small tear in the upper background, and a pinhole in the upper right corner. Very Fine- on Linen.
