Description

World War I Propaganda by James Montgomery Flagg (Leslie-Judge Co., 1917). Poster (30" X 40.5") "I Want You for U.S. Army."
At the top of his career, James Montgomery Flagg was the highest paid magazine illustrator in America, and this iconic WWI recruitment poster for the U.S. Army was perhaps the crowning achievement. Using his own image to avoid having to hire a model (adding only some age and a white goatee), he fashioned one of the most successful recruitment posters ever printed. Indeed, it was a design that millions saw during the war years, and was even revived for WWII. There has been touchup applied to mild edge wear in the right border, a minor tear in the upper border, some chipping in the upper left corner and border, and a tear from the lower border into the background. Very Fine- on Linen.
