    Description

World War I Propaganda by Howard Chandler Christy (Forbes, 1917). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Poster (30" X 40.5") "Fight or Buy Bonds."
After two bond drives in 1917, Congress authorized the Third Liberty Loan Act on April 5, 1918 to fund the cost of the American war effort in World War I. Bonds up to $45,000 were to be repaid at 4.5% interest after ten years. One of the most famous posters created to push the sales of the bonds was this one painted by Howard Chandler Christy. His lovely art was instrumental in raising countless millions for the war effort. After the war, his fashion images of the modern woman became well-known as "Christy Girls." Certainly a wonderful display piece, this historic poster presents well after professional corrections to some edge wear, creases, minor tears, and small chips. There are two tears at the top and bottom that extend into the outer parts of the image.
