    Description

World War I Propaganda (1918). Very Fine- on Linen. United War Work Campaign Poster (41" X 82") "He Guards the Road to France," Henry Reuterdahl Artwork.
Swedish-American artist Henry Reuterdahl, known for his ties with the United States Navy, was part of the Division of Pictorial Publicity of the Committee on Public Information along with many other artists to create propaganda illustrations. He was also commissioned by the United War Work Campaign, which consisted of different groups including the Commission on Training Camp Activities, Young Men's Christian Association, Knights of Columbus, Jewish Welfare Board, Salvation Army, War Camp Community Service, American Library Association, and Young Women's Christian Association. These groups came together to raise over $170,000,000. Although backed on linen, no touchup has been applied to this poster, and the majority of the wear is found in the borders, including edge wear, light creases, pinholes, as well as very minor chips and tears. Also apparent in the borders are unobtrusive stains and a couple of dust shadows. The interior only shows slight fold wear, faint image ghosting, and some foxing in the top of the poster. The linen has been trimmed to the borders. Very Fine- on Linen.
