    Description

    The Mortal Storm (MGM, 1940). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style C.
"The tale we are about to tell is of the mortal storm in which man finds himself today. Again he is crying, 'I must kill my fellow man!' Our story asks, 'How soon will man find wisdom in his heart and build a lasting shelter against his ignorant fears?' " In the late 1930s and early 1940s, most of Hollywood favored getting into the battle against the Nazis, with films like Foreign Correspondent and A Yank in the R.A.F. pointing the way. Released a year and a half before America's entry into WWII, this film was Hollywood's most overt criticism of Nazi Germany, with the result that Adolf Hitler banned the film in Germany, along with every other MGM release. Based on the novel of the same name, it stars James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan in the story of German families torn between their beliefs and allegiances during the Nazi rise to power. There were pinholes in the corners, and chips in the top crossfold and the vertical fold at the top border. There has been touchup to the folds. Professional restoration has addressed these issues. Very Fine on Linen.
