    Description

The Big Parade (MGM, 1925). Fine+ on Cardstock. Window Card (14" X 22").
This thought-provoking and gripping war drama depicts the fate of WWI soldiers in stark and harrowing scenes, unlike anything audiences had witnessed before. Screen idol John Gilbert stars as a wealthy young American who is sent to France to face the horrors of battle, and falls for French girl Renee Adoree. The early scenes of a blissful life and heroic men sent off to Europe contrast sharply with shocking death scenes, shown with spectacular MGM effects. The film is one of the biggest hits of the era, and does not shy away from reality, going so far as to depict Gilbert returning home after a leg amputation. This card looks wonderful after professional corrections to a vertical fold, creases, surface wear, and a few small chips, one of which was in Renee Adoree's image. There were also some tears into the interior, and the borders, white background, and most of the imprint area have been airbrushed. There are a few minor post-restoration lifts near the upper border.
