    Official War Review (Pathé, 1918). World War I Poster (27.25" X 40.5").
When the United States entered World War I, the government understood the tremendous value of motion pictures in educating and acquainting the public with the country's goals and progress abroad. The Committee on Public Information (CPI) was enlisted to produced the Official War Review, with Pathé as the distributor. These pictures told the war story like no other medium could, leaving indelible images on the American public. Newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst even did his part, sending his favorite cameraman, Joe Hubbell, to Europe to help make the films, which included footage of American, British, French and Italian troops. Pathé also made war related feature films, such as Pershing's Crusaders, America's Answer, and Under Four Flags . The movies were also shown abroad to win favor with neutral countries such as Switzerland, Sweden and Norway. Capturing the patriotic spirit of the films, the very rare stone litho poster offered here depicts a resolute Lady Liberty, lighting the way for a band of Allied soldiers in the background. Minor signs of handling (fold wear with tears) have been touched up, and this beautiful piece of American nostalgia now displays like new. Very Fine on Linen.
