    Description

    Napoleon (Paramount, R-1935). French Double Grande (62.5" X 94").
Director Abel Gance originally intended his Napoleon biopic to extend over several films. Once the reality of time and budget set in, he was left with one extra-length epic focusing on the early life and career of the would-be world conqueror. The 6 hour picture stars Albert Dieudonne as Napoleon, and this early country-of-origin reissue poster matches the film in its grandness. Paramount did the first French reissue of the film and added sound effects with a musical score. With bold color and imagery provided by artist Rene Peron, this double grande is definitely a head-turner. In remarkable condition for its age, this beautiful piece shows only aging along the folds, a small amount of ghosting of the lettering in the title, and touchup has been applied to fold and cross fold wear with a couple of minor chips. Paper on this film is quite scarce, making this French poster a very special find. Very Fine on Linen.
