DescriptionLa Grande Illusion (R.A.C., 1937). French Grande (47" X 63").
Almost seventy years after it was made, La Grande Illusion remains one of cinema's great achievements. Starring Erich von Stroheim and Jean Gabin, director Jean Renoir focuses on the human relationships that evolved during World War I and shows the universality of humankind, regardless of nationality, religion, or social class. This lovely French grande with wonderful art by A. Jourgin features portraits of three of the stars, while only Von Stroheim gets the full character treatment, complete with costumed scarf, hat, and monocle. The few distractions present in the original poster have been addressed with top linenbacking and the needed minimal restoration for a tear in the top into the image, slight fold wear with small chips and tears, two small chips in the right and left borders, a chip in the lower left corner, and small chips in the bottom border. A fine addition to any collection of classic posters. This very rare poster now displays beautifully. Fine on Linen.
Estimate: $5,000 - $7,000.
