    Description

Across the Pacific (Warner Brothers, 1942). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14").
In the annals of life imitating art, the prophetic power of this film may be the strangest. A year after his directorial debut, The Maltese Falcon, John Huston reunited his cast including Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor and Sydney Greenstreet, for a script titled Aloha Means Goodbye. The story centered on a Japanese plot to, yes, bomb Pearl Harbor -- a thriller rendered slightly less thrilling by the real-life tragedy in late 1941. Writers substituted the Panama Canal after the Pearl Harbor attack, as Bogart's undercover operative must try to prevent another attack. This title card has always been considered among the best from a Bogart film during his heralded years at Warner Brothers, and it doesn't turn up often. This example was lightly handled, displaying only staple holes in the borders, a small stain under the title/credits, a tiny stain in the top right background, a small tear in the bottom border, and paper tape on the verso at the top. Fine/Very Fine.
