Description

    Vertigo (Paramount, 1958). Six Sheet (79" X 81").
For Alfred Hitchcock fans and devotees of artist Saul Bass, this is the poster worth waiting for. Making its Heritage debut, the six sheet format from Vertigo is a a marvel in its own right. One can only be impressed with how masterful an image Bass created for this highly elusive piece. With little more than basic line drawings and a few spiral weaves, Bass successfully underscores James Stewart peering at the ground below him, overcoming his acrophobia at the film's climax. He's at the tower of San Juan Bautista, with the screaming Kim Novak just before she falls to her death. It's an image as dizzying and intense as the film itself. For a poster this large, the piece has survived in remarkable condition. Restored to diminish signs of handling, the six sheet has had touchup to the folds, a few small spots in the bottom background, the top left corner, a tiny hole below the title, pinholes across the top border/background, a tear under the "Novak" credit and a tear in the "ch" of "Hitchcock." A small dot stain can still be detected in the bottom background, as can some smudging under "Vista Vision." A poster of this significance doesn't come around often! Very Fine on Linen.
