DescriptionVertigo (Paramount, 1958). Fine on Linen. Three Sheet (41" X 79") Saul Bass Artwork.
Widely regarded as one of Alfred Hitchcock's best films, this tale of obsession also has one of the best poster campaigns created for a Hitchcock film! Saul Bass was hired to bring his inimitable flair to the title sequence of the film as well as the poster art. His unique graphic style incorporated James Stewart's on-screen psychosis and vertigo into the swirling motif used throughout the campaign. With the downward spiraling art, we feel Stewart's own dizziness as he's drawn further into a plot to use his illness as an aid to a murder. The posters for this title are among the most collectible for any Hitchcock film! A favorite piece desired by many collectors, this three sheet has received touchup to the folds, a few creases, and small tears. Slightly visible is some unaddressed writing bleedthrough in the lower right background, and there is some color fading to the orange printing. The linen has been trimmed almost, but not quite, to the borders, leaving Bass' classic image intact.
Estimate: $4,000 - $8,000.
