    Description

Uncle Tom's Cabana (MGM, 1947). One Sheet (27" X 41") Tex Avery Directed.
A Merrie Melodies animated cartoon short, Uncle Tom's Cabana was directed by Tex Avery and is a parody of Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel. The cartoon was banned from syndication in 1968 due to its controversial racial stereotypes. Along with this film, ten other pictures made up the "Censored Eleven," and not until 2010 were they shown publicly. Uncle Tom (voiced by Paul Frees) has only one remaining friend by end of the cartoon, Little Eva, a saucy character that Avery used in several films, including Red Hot Riding Hood. She's pictured here, on this scarce poster, dancing as Tom (a caricature of famed jazz pianist Fats Waller) tickles the ivories. Very rare, this one sheet won't turn up again any time soon, making it an excellent opportunity for animation fans. Touchup has been applied to folds, paper loss in the upper right, and pinholes in the borders. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
