    Triple Trouble (Essanay, 1918). Three Sheet (42" X 80").
For Charlie Chaplin fans, the July 2016 Signature Movie Poster Auction is a treasure trove of greatness. Appearing for the first time in Heritage's history are several stunningly rare posters from Chaplin films. Included is not only the one sheet from Triple Trouble, but also the three sheet format featuring an exquisite image of Chaplin sporting his trademark bowler and cane (which incidentally sold at auction in 2012 for $60,000!) This hilarious Chaplin comedy is a meshing of triple films, with scenes taken from Essanay two-reeler Police, Work, and an unfinished Chaplin film, Life. It was actually released two years after Chaplin left the studio to go to Mutual, with director Leo White adding a few scenes to fill out the story. Nevertheless, much of the short is directed by Chaplin and the flop house scenes are pure genius. The stone litho poster retained impressive color and has been professionally restored to near perfection. The borders have been airbrushed to address missing paper in the bottom corners and border. Touchup was applied to the folds and a chip in the "D" of "COMEDY." Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
