DescriptionThunderball (United Artists, 1965). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. American Full-Bleed Multi-Use Four-Unit Display (30" X 40") Frank McCarthy and Robert McGinnis Artwork.
An unusual and extremely rare item making its first appearance at Heritage, this is a piece so scarce that we have never seen nor heard of another copy offered in auction! This unique American poster takes its cue from the advance "quad crown" style British quad, closely resembling the quad in size, image, and purpose. The pressbook encourages theater owners to cut the poster into quarters so that the images could be displayed separately or arranged in a vertical or horizontal pattern. Though both the American and British posters share many of the same images, courtesy of longtime Bond artists Frank McCarthy and Robert McGinnis, the American poster provides a section for the film's title, credits, and even an imprint area for theater information. For additional reference, we have added an image of the poster as it appears in the American pressbook, but please note that there is no pressbook included in this lot. A colorful piece sure to catch the eye, this poster has been professionally restored to address pinholes, small chips and tears, as well as a tear from the left edge into the smoke from Bond's jetpack. There are a couple of places at the edges and outer background that have been airbrushed, rounding out the poster's restoration.
Estimate: $4,000 - $8,000.
