Description

This is Cinerama (Cinerama Europe 1, 1961). French Two Panel (62" X 92").
This is Cinerama premiered in New York City the fall of 1952, ushering in a groundbreaking viewing experience that completely awed and thrilled audiences. The Cinerama technique created wide screen images almost three times larger than that of traditional movie screens. The film's distribution was also revolutionary, as the new technology required a special setup of three projectors and multiple soundtracks. It was shown in a single theater in most cities, with reserved seats and lengthy runs, a distribution method known as the "road show." The film begins in black and white in standard 4:3 aspect ratio, with a narration of the evolution of motion picture entertainment, from cave paintings intimating movement, up to the introduction of color and sound. Audiences then hear "This is Cinerama" and the screen expands into the full Cinerama aspect ratio and color. A series of breathtaking vignettes unfold before the viewer's dazzled eyes and ears -- Rockaway Playland Roller Coaster, Niagara Falls via helicopter, gondolas floating down the canals of Venice, the Vienna Boys Choir performing "Tales from the Vienna Woods," and a crowd in a Madrid arena watching a bullfight. A Cinerama audience takes in the highflying exuberance of the film, captured nicely on this large format French poster. Heritage is delighted to offer in the March Signature Auction three incredible styles from the picture's 1961 release in France. This version is in two pieces, as printed, and shows light handling, including stains and smudging in the bottom panel, a tear in the upper left and right, fold wear with separations, small holes in the horizontal folds, creasing near the folds, and tape on the verso of the bottom panel. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.
