    Description

This Gun for Hire (Paramount, 1942). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Adapted from the Graham Greene novel, This Gun For Hire was the film to introduce the ideal film noir couple, Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake. Ladd turns in a star-making performance as a steely contract killer, void of almost all emotion. Lake is a nightclub singer and spy, the ultimate femme fatale to match Ladd's onscreen appeal. Underscoring the thread of corruption and violence, the film is shot in a shadowy style, and the posters inspired by the picture portray the dark, unsettling feel just as accurately. Here, Lake is dangerously alluring, sporting her signature peek-a-boo locks, and Ladd, in garish light and drawing a gun, looks every bit the heartless mercenary. After this success, the duo would retain their "charm" as a noir pair in The Glass Key (1942), and The Blue Dahlia (1946). The poster has had the benefit of professional restoration, correcting pinholes in the corners, two small tears in the top border, minor fold wear with small chips in the crossfolds, a tiny scratch in Lake's cheek, and a small chip in the fold in the right border. The poster now displays beautifully. From the Collection of GLG. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
