Description

The Wizard of Oz (MGM, 1939). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14").
Judy Garland is Dorothy Gale, a forlorn orphan who yearns for something other than her dull, colorless life on her relative's desolate Kansas farm. Her wish comes true when a twister sweeps her and her dog, Toto, off to the lush Land of Oz. In this Technicolor wonderland, Dorothy sets off down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to meet the famed Wizard. Along the way she encounters a host of enchanting characters, including the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), Tin Man (Jack Haley) and the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr). This classic title card features charming portraits of the cast, as well as title art designed by renown caricaturist Al Hirschfeld. The card had a chip from the upper right corner extending into the tagline "Gaiety!, Glory!, Glamour!" There was a chip from the lower right corner into the yellow field and a chip from the upper left corner, border only. The verso has been airbrushed and there was a scratch above the "IZAR" of the title. There was a chip mid-card in the left and right border that slightly extends into the image. Professional restoration has diminished these flaws and the card displays beautifully. Fine-.
