    Description

The Wizard of Oz (MGM, 1939). Fine/Very Fine on Paper. Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style B.
Making its Heritage debut, we have the pleasure of offering this half sheet of exceptional scarcity, never before featured in any of our previous auctions. Time has been powerless to erase the enduring magic of this wonderful film which has delighted generations of children, both young and old, for over eight decades. Judy Garland brings to life Dorothy Gale, the child in all of us, who yearns to escape to a perfect place over the rainbow. Along her way in the magical land of Oz, Dorothy encounters a host of unforgettable characters: the clever Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), the sentimental Tin Man (Jack Haley), the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), witches both good and bad, and the wonderful Wizard of Oz. Benefitting from expert conservation, this poster full of colorful whimsy once displayed some signs of usage, including edge and fold wear, slight fold separations, and pinholes. Also restored and no longer apparent were creases, surface scuffs, and moderate tears from the borders extending just into the background. There were a couple of minor chips in the right and lower borders, some stains in the bottom border, and a diagonal tear from the left border into the "W" of "Wizard." The borders have all been airbrushed, and there are a few minor unrestored stains in the Tin Man and an unaddressed pinhole in the Scarecrow. The poster has a presentation as bright as the day it was printed, wonderfully showcasing its fantastic image. Fine/Very Fine on Paper.
