    Description

    The War of the Worlds (Paramount, 1953). Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27.25" X 41").
    One of the most engaging and unsettling movie posters from the 1950s sci-fi genre, this fan favorite features the grasping hand of a giant invading Martian, ready to pluck a couple of terrified Earthlings from their paranoid existence. The film could not have been more timely. America was deeply embroiled in the Cold War, afraid, more than anything else, of being "taken over" by an unstoppable alien (Communist) force. The Oscar-winning special effects still astound to this day and have made this film one of the most important of the era. Always in high demand, this one sheet has had light touchup applied to a couple of stains in the lower left image, as well as to a few spots on the folds. Unaddressed wear includes slight fold separations and a small tear in the upper border, but these issues are barely noticeable.
