    Description

The War of the Worlds (Paramount, 1953). Lobby Cards (6) (11" X 14").
H.G. Wells' novel is spectacularly brought to life in what is known as one of the finest science fiction motion pictures of the 1950s. Produced by George Pal, and featuring groundbreaking and Oscar winning special effects, the film finds Earth at the mercy of giant Martian war ships. In the mid-1920s, Cecil B. DeMille obtained the rights to Wells' novel and, at one point, wanted Alfred Hitchcock to direct. After those plans fell through, DeMille turned control of the production over to Pal. This is a nice partial set to the classic with cards #4 and #5 being the cleanest. Cards #2 and #8 have diagonal slices in the four places which appear to be made to accommodate a still over the card. The other cards have minor issues. Fine+.

    Estimate: $400 - $800.
