    Description

    The War of the Worlds (Paramount, 1953). Japanese B2 (20" X 28").
Sold for the first time at Heritage, this spectacular and rare poster is a true find! H.G. Wells' Martian invasion tale is one of the most influential works in the history of science fiction. The classic story of Earth's battle with beings from Mars has been adapted several times over multiple forms of media, including a television series, a famous radio drama by Orson Welles, comic books, and motion pictures. Of all the film versions, it is director Byron Haskin's take that truly stands out with its talented cast and ground breaking special effects by George Pal (for which he would earn an Academy Award). Of special note is the mushroom cloud in the lower left corner, a symbol of ultimate destruction to the 1950s Japan only found in their posters. It has some small tears in the right border, pinholes in the corners, and some surface rippling towards the bottom from an old paper snipe on the verso of lower part of poster. Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.

    Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
