DescriptionThe Vagabond (Mutual, 1916). Fine on Cardstock. Window Card (14" X 22").
Charlie Chaplin's stint at Mutual Film was the most creative point in his career, where the king of silent comedy began to display his dramatic skills. The Vagabond had a slightly more serious storyline than his usual fare, where Chaplin plays a street musician that saves an abducted girl (long time costar Edna Purviance) from forced labor in a gypsy camp. Making only its second appearance at Heritage, this stone litho piece looks wonderful after skilled restoration to address mild surface wear and small paper lifts. Airbrushing has been applied to the border and parts of the blue field. The card also had a one inch trim in the right border that went around Chaplin's hand. Post-restoration wear includes minor lifts in the airbrushing and slight edge wear, and there is some faint unaddressed color fading. Fine on Cardstock.
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
