DescriptionThe Thing from Another World (RKO, 1951). Folded, Fine+. Trimmed Three Sheet (40.25" X 79.75").
Based on John W. Campbell's novella Who Goes There? this atmospheric film adaptation, directed by Christian Nyby (with the guiding influence of Howard Hawks) and starring James Arness as the alien plant-man, has long been a favorite among science fiction buffs. This impressive three sheet poster is composed primarily of a stylized logo (highly unusual for the era) against a mossy green background. The poster has slight edge and fold wear, some fold separations, pinholes, and mild creases. There are tears, unobtrusive stains and smudges, and some faint staining below the title. The sides of the poster's panels have been slightly trimmed in the borders. On the verso of each panel is a stamp proclaiming the poster to be part of the personal collection of Forrest J. Ackerman, the creator of the popular Famous Monsters film magazine.
Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
