Description

    The Thief of Bagdad (United Artists, 1940). Original Negatives (166) & Internegatives (50) (approx. 7.75" X 9.75").
Considered by many to be one of the finest tellings of the familiar story, this version of The Thief of Bagdad had a troubled history. Issues included moving the production from England to Hollywood after the start of World War II made shooting in England untenable, as well as producer Alexander Korda's hiring and firing of six different directors. Regardless, the film would emerge as a first-rate Technicolor marvel with a great cast (Conrad Veidt, June Duprez, and Sabu), and earned three Academy Awards. Offered is an fantastic collection of 216 negatives from the film (165 of which are original), many showcasing outstanding behind the scenes images never before seen. The majority are in excellent condition, with some showing pinholes and/or small chips in the corners, faint surface scratches, tape at a few edges, and/or some developer residue that should not affect the printing process. Despite these issues, the negatives will still produce excellent positive prints when properly processed. Very Fine+.

Another major house refused the work stating it was too unique for the artist. Heritage saw that as an advantage!
