    Description

The Thief of Bagdad (United Artists, 1924). Fine/Very Fine on Paper. Half Sheet (22" X 28") Anton Grot Artwork.
Douglas Fairbanks stars in one of the best silent films from the 1920s. With a budget of two million dollars and designs by William Cameron Menzies and direction by Raoul Walsh, this tale, based on One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, is a spectacular beauty to behold. Fairbanks is at his swashbuckling and athletic best as the thief who invades the Caliph of Bagdad's palace and falls in love with the ruler's daughter. To win her hand, he must set off on a magical journey to obtain the treasure of treasures. The gorgeous art of Fairbanks riding the winged horse is by Anton Grot. Grot was famous in Hollywood for his work on such films as Little Caesar and Gold Diggers of 1933, and of course, this film. The outer borders have all been airbrushed, as have the folds. there has been touchup on the top vertical fold to address misfold and tears. There is another smaller crease on the right side and the bottom left corner has a large crease which occurred after restoration. Despite all this, the poster displays beautifully.

    Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
