    The Telegraph Trail (Warner Brothers/Vitagraph, 1933). Fine+ on Linen. Six Sheet (81" X 76.25").
Extremely rare and a top choice for John Wayne collectors, this magnificent six sheet is the only known copy of its kind remaining today, and still shows off its wonderfully bright colors 85 years after its printing. Though he had taken uncredited parts in dozens of films since 1926, Wayne was still a newcomer to Hollywood stardom when he headlined this 1933 B Western. Acting opposite Marceline Day, Wayne plays John Trent, a scout sent by the U.S. Calvary to investigate Native American sabotage of the trans-continental telegraph lines, possibly instigated by a suspicious white businessman. This was one of six films to cleverly star The Duke (Wayne's childhood nickname) with Duke the Devil Horse, both similar enough in appearance to Ken Maynard and his horse Tarzan that the studio could splice in footage from Maynard's old scenes. Sadly, The Telegraph Trail was to be one of Marceline Day's final films as her star had begun to wane in the early '30s, and she would soon retire from the spotlight. This fantastic stone litho piece is making its debut at Heritage, and looks incredible after receiving professional restoration work to the folds and fold separations, pinholes, creases, and horizontal tears into the interior. There was a partial trim along all four borders, with some original paper remaining along all sides. This did not affect any of the printing, and has been well replaced and restored. Fine+ on Linen.
