    Description

    The Strongest (Fox, 1920). Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 41").
It's certainly an uncommon sight to see the image of a story's original author prominently printed on any movie poster, but this one sheet for The Strongest takes exception to that rule for its novelist and screenplay adapter, Georges Clemenceau. This is because, at the time, monsieur Clemenceau was the sitting Prime Minister of France. In between meetings settling international affairs after the devastation of World War I, the fierce Tiger of France found time to pen several works of dramatic and romantic fiction. It was actually while he was recuperating after an attempt on his life that Georges Clemenceau adapted his 1919 novel into the screenplay for this silent melodrama, directed by Raoul Walsh and starring a young Renée Adorée in her second film. Printed with bright stone litho colors, touchup to this Heritage first has been applied to edge and fold wear, minor fold separations, creases, and torn pinholes. There were also small tears in the borders, as well as a few chips. Some of these issues may still be somewhat apparent. The poster also has post-restoration staining and creasing. Fine+ on Linen.

    Estimate: $800 - $1,600.
