Description

The Spanish Main (RKO, 1947). French Double Grande (88" X 61.5").
Heritage recently presented for the first time the gorgeous French Grande for this film, and we're now pleased to offer an even larger format, the Double Grande. The French retitled this picture The Black Flag, opting for a more direct pirate identity for the film. This was RKO's first picture in the three-color Technicolor process, starring Paul Henried as a Dutch sea captain and Maureen O'Hara as his love interest. A swashbuckling delight, this vast stone litho poster captures all of the high seas drama as sword play erupts in front of a demure O'Hara. Artist Rojac (Roger Jacquier) is credited with this epic piece, and is also known for designing the French release posters for Spellbound (R-1980s), My Favorite Wife, and The Paradine Case. Professional restoration has addressed creases in the top border, a chip and two small holes in the bottom border, smudges in the top center background and top border, pinholes in the corners, tears in the top border that extend into the title, the word "Walter" and the red background, and a long tear starting at the bottom left border that extends up to the top of the sword. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.

I received the catalog and was very impressed with its color illustrations, descriptions and attractive layout. (It has better production values than the New York houses.)
