Description

The Son of the Sheik (United Artists, 1926). Title Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Although Rudolph Valentino came to the attention of the movie-going public in 1921 with a career-making role in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, it was his portrayal of Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan in The Sheik (1921) that made him a world-wide icon. Although the movie was criticized on virtually every level, it was an overwhelming success at the box office, so much so that a sequel was released several years later. The Son of the Sheik, however, is everything The Sheik was not. Exciting, adventurous, thrilling, and wildly romantic, this movie presents a bold, confident Valentino at the peak of his creative powers. Tragically, this would be the last picture in which Rudolph Valentino, one of the most incandescent stars in Hollywood, would appear. On August 23, 1926, at the age of 34, Valentino died from a perforated ulcer. His funeral attended by thousands, was the stuff of Hollywood legend. This stunning title card, with a superb portrait of Valentino, shows some very light foxing, but is otherwise pristine; a perfect addition to any serious collection. Very Fine/Near Mint.
