DescriptionThe Son of the Sheik (United Artists, 1926). Fine+ on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 41").
Although Rudolph Valentino came to the attention of the movie-going public in 1921 with a career-making role in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, it was his portrayal of Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan in The Sheik (1921) that made him a world-wide icon. Although the movie was criticized on virtually every level, it was an overwhelming success at the box office, so much so that a sequel was released several years later. The Son of the Sheik, however, is everything The Sheik was not. Exciting, adventurous, thrilling, and wildly romantic, this movie presents a bold, confident Valentino at the peak of his creative powers. Tragically, this would be the last picture in which Valentino would appear. On August 23, 1926, at the age of 31, Valentino died from a perforated ulcer. Copies of this incredible one sheet featuring Valentino and co-star Vilma Banky almost never surface at auction and this is the first time Heritage has had the privilege of presenting the beautiful poster. Printed in rich stone lithography, the poster has received professional corrections to fold wear and separation, pinholes, small tears, and minor chips in the folds. The borders were once trimmed by 0.75" on all sides and have been replaced during restoration. Here is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most famous and desired posters from the silent era.
Estimate: $20,000 - $40,000.
