The Shining (Warner Brothers, 1980). Limited Edition Silk Screen Print (20" X 26.5") Saul Bass Artwork.
Certainly more horrific than Warner Brothers' bright yellow one sheets, this blood-red poster is one of only 150 copies printed by the immensely talented Saul Bass at the great Krebs Studio. It's been said that this original crimson design was indeed supposed to be the final look of the movie's advertisements. Of course, when changed to yellow, Bass was upset. He had reportedly created 300 designs until he gained the approval of the notoriously demanding Stanley Kubrick, with all his hard work now wasted in a wash of yellow ink. Thankfully, he had these striking silk screen posters printed as gifts to the Museum of Modern Art, friends, and exhibitions around the world, so that his powerful initial design remains for fans of his work. They are considered especially scarce, as, unlike several of his other pieces, they had no subsequent printings after their first run. This particular example has slight edge wear, small corner creases, and scuffing in the interior. There is an official card identifying the poster as being from Saul Bass/Herb Yager and Associates that has been attached with cellophane tape on the verso. Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.
