    Description

The Red Shoes (Eagle Lion, 1949). Italian 2 - Fogli (39" X 55") Anselmo Ballester Artwork.
The Archers - Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger - composed this masterpiece in the wake of World War II, based around the legendary antics of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and its motley band of genius dancers, composers and artisans. Anselmo Ballester's gorgeous artwork perfectly compliments Jack Cardiff's pioneering Technicolor cinematography, with Moira Shearer's Vicky Page falling helplessly under the spell of Anton Walbrook's domineering impresario of Boris Lermontov, in a style never before offered by Heritage Auctions. The title of the film, its narrative, and the central ballet sequence, were wonderfully adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's original 1845 children's parable, The Red Shoes. This unrestored poster still displays marvelous color and presentation, with just a few creases, scattered pinholes in the borders and interior, small tears in the edges, an additional tear and small hole in the lower left corner, and signs of light toning. Some of these issues have been addressed with cellophane tape on the verso. Folded, Fine+.
