DescriptionThe Red Shoes (Eagle Lion, 1948). Fine- on Linen. British Quad (30" X 40") Francis Marshall Artwork.
Moira Shearer looks as elegant as ever on this country of origin poster illustrated by Francis Marshall, the first British quad that Heritage has ever offered from The Red Shoes. Rather than an adaptation of the famous Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's feature incorporates the story as a ballet within the plot, but is still just as tragic. Shearer plays the part of a conflicted dancer to perfection, supported well by Marius Goring and Anton Walbrook as the men warring for her affections and future. Professional restoration has addressed slight fold wear and a small hole in the bottom right corner. The borders were once trimmed with a 0.25" trim along the top and bottom edges and a 1" trim along the side edges. The title, yellow field, several of the credit boxes, and background have been airbrushed.
Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
