DescriptionThe Playhouse (First National, 1921). Lobby Cards (2) (11" X 14").
In an amazing feat of early special effects and high-energy acting, Buster Keaton takes on a dozen roles, often appearing as multiple characters in a single scene, in this superb two-reel comedy. Keaton's co-star is Virginia Fox, the future wife of Darryl F. Zanuck. Cards from this masterpiece of filmmaking rarely come available, and offered here are a couple of wonderful scene cards featuring the two, with one also including the presence of Buster's frequent on-screen foil, Joe Roberts. Professional restoration to the Backstage card includes corrections to a vertical fold, pinholes in the borders, and a couple of minor chips. The Monkey card has undergone professional restoration to addressed a few tears and paper loss in the borders, and it has a minor post-restoration tear at the bottom. Both cards have had the borders and parts of the which background airbrushed. Fine+.
Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
