The Phantom of the Opera (Universal International, 1962). Reynold Brown Original Artwork in Gouache (13.5" X 18" mounted to 16" X 20").
Horror fans will be thrilled with this dramatic original painting by legendary poster artist Reynold Brown. Known for creating the artwork for such horror classics as: Attack of the Puppet People, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, The Masque of the Red Death, The Pit and the Pendulum, etc. He worked mainly for Universal, but also freelanced at American International, and MGM. One of his most famous projects was for The Phantom of the Opera, and this image with Herbert Lom as The Phantom was used for an inset on several sizes including the one sheet, three sheet, and half sheet, and as the border art of the lobby card set. It is painted in gouache on paper, which is mounted to matt board. Gouache was the medium Brown most often used for his poster designs, and is a richer form of watercolor. It is in impeccable condition and will be a centerpiece of any horror collection. This particular piece was saved from destruction by one of Brown's former colleagues at Universal. Near Mint.
