    Description

The Phantom Empire (Mascot, 1935). Six Sheet (81" X 81"). If you ask anyone born before 1926 what was the most prevalent memory of movies from their childhood, inevitably most would mention serials, and at least half would mention this famous serial by title. Gene Autry, a new personality from radio, stars in this chapter-play which deals with an underground civilization of Muranians whose culture is far more advanced than that on Earth. Gene stumbles into the secret caverns beneath his "Radio Ranch" and must try to avoid a war brewing between the inhabitants of Mu and Earth. Part science fiction, part western - this serial had it all. The posters for this title have always been very rare. This poster is the only copy of the six sheet that we are aware of in existance. The large format posters were printed in far fewer quantities than the one sheet or smaller. Most were put up on the exterior of the theater and many were cut up to make theater displays as the press books advised. Thus, the chances of finding a six sheet from a poster pre-WWII is very rare. This gorgeous poster is in four panels. Each panel has some fold separation and some slight paper loss. This poster would be greatly enhanced by being put on linen and archivally preserved. Fine-.
