The Outlaw (Lux, 1949). Italian Foglio (27.5" X 39") Averado Ciriello Artwork.
Howard Hughes introduced the world to the stunning Jane Russell with this highly controversial film, sparking an intense outcry Hughes himself helped stoke to gain widespread notoriety and, of course, a massive amount of free publicity. Originally scheduled for release in 1941, the censors at the Hollywood Production Code Administration required Hughes to make major cuts to certain steamy segments, but Hughes adamantly refused, prompting a break with 20th Century Fox and delaying the movie's release until after the war. The sultry art of Russell in most of the picture's advertisements would be considered provocative even today, and memorializes the classic imagery associated with this picture. This stunning Italian poster by artist Averado Ciriello shows that Russell's beauty is still undeniable in this first ever offer from Heritage. The poster has bends in the right corners, slight creasing, some misfolding, minor tears in the borders, writing bleedthrough near the title and a dust shadow in the upper border. There are two horizontal tears in Jane Russell's blouse and another tear in the left border that all have archival tape on the verso. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.
